The New York Giants made it clear that they are preparing to move on from Eli Manning this offseason, drafting Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick of the NFL Draft.

With Manning being 38 years old and having one year left on his deal, everyone knew this moment was coming, and not even Manning himself is worried about Jones being on the roster.

“I don’t think you can stress that,” Manning said, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday. “You got to go out there. I’m going to do my best every time I’m at practice and every time at the games and hope that’s enough for us to win the games. … I think it’s still kind of a situation where you have to have the same approach you’ve treated all the other years and just kind of hope for the best.”

Manning is still viewed as the starter, and barring any unforeseen circumstances in training camp and preseason, he will almost certainly open the 2019 campaign under center for the Giants.

However, you have to assume that if New York finds itself out of playoff contention early, the Giants might decide to bench Manning in favor of Jones, as Manning's time with the Giants is coming to a close regardless of what happens this coming season.

Manning was originally drafted by New York back in 2004 and began his rookie campaign as Kurt Warner's backup. Manning then displaced Warner as the starter during the middle of that season and has been the Giants' starting signal-caller ever since.
