New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones recently found himself as the subject of some criticism from Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. It seems quarterback Eli Manning is proud of how the rookie handled the issue.

Rather than give a snarky response, Jones simply acknowledged what Mayfield had to say. Manning feels his showed plenty of maturity dealing with the drama, via the Associated Press:

”I thought he did great,” Manning said. ”I told him what to say. He didn't listen to me, though. He took the high road.”

Mayfield was not shy about expressing his shock at the Giants' decision to take Jones with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He alluded that the rookie's underwhelming tenure at Duke was hardly enough to show the true makings of a franchise quarterback.

Fortunately, Jones has since proven to be a man of action and not words. He responded to the most hectic week of his professional career thus far by completing 9-of-11 passes for 141 yards in the Giants win over the Cincinnati Bengals during their penultimate preseason game. Even head coach Pat Shurmur feels that his performance throughout the preseason has started to silence the doubters little by little.

Jones will likely continue to face his fair share of mixed reviews playing in a major media market like New York. Fortunately, any promise he can show while backing up Manning will likely never go unnoticed. Until then, he can add Mayfield to the list of doubters that sounded off on him so early on.
