The New York Giants may be headed toward a rebuild, but they’re focused on winning in 2019. With that in mind, the team has agreed to a new deal with wide receiver Bennie Fowler.

The announce comes along with the fact that the Giants have also agreed to new deals with long snapper Zak DeOssie and cornerback Tony Lippett via Pro Football Talk.

As stated by the Giants front office earlier this week, the team clearly still plans on trying to contend while they enter a rebuilding period, and despite trading Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this month, the Giants still plan on trying to contend in a crowded NFC East.

Fowler initially signed with the Giants last October and started five of the 10 games that he played with the team. His stats weren’t anything to write home about, but he did manage to haul in 16 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown in his brief appearances.

His signing is likely more of a security blanket for the Giants, who must now play without the likes of Beckham.

Fowler joins a Giants receiving group that includes Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard, and Corey Coleman, all of whom will hope to replicate the output that Beckham Jr. was notorious for producing when at his healthiest.

Originally signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2014, Fowler caught 56 passes for 898 yards and five touchdowns in 45 appearances with the Broncos.

Fowler spent time on the roster for both the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots in 2018, but didn’t play in any games with the teams before he made his way to the Giants.
