Since being selected with the second overall pick in this year's draft by the New York Giants, there has been a huge amount of optimism around what Saquon Barkley can provide the offense.

This level of excitement was most recently expressed by Giants veteran defensive tackle Damon Harrison, who voiced that he wants to see how Barkley will react to being hit. The rookie running back has now responded to those comments by saying he's happy that he doesn't have to face “Snacks” Harrison as an opposing player, according to Greg Joyce of The New York Post.

“My response to that is I’m just happy that we are on the same team and he only gets to hit me maybe once or twice a year, rather than a full game,” Barkley said with a grin Wednesday after the Giants wrapped up their second of three minicamp sessions.

There is clearly some strong level of respect on both sides, but at this point Barkley is an unproven talent in the NFL. Until he shows he can translate the success he had in college to the next level, there will be questions about where he can become a dependable asset in the backfield.

Barkley is a unique talent who has displayed the ability to have a huge impact as both a runner and a receiver. He will have every opportunity to showcase his skills as the clear-cut starter from the onset of training camp. It's on Barkley to take advantage of the situation in front of him, as the Giants will give him every chance to make a huge impact in the game-plan.

New York has lacked a true top-tier rusher since the days of Tiki Barber, but they believe that Barkley has the potential to fulfill that role in the backfield.
