With the New York Giants set to enter an important offseason, some are suggesting that Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney be a priority target in free agency.

Clowney has just 34 combined tackles this season in 12 games, but he may still have a lot of good football ahead of him since he's only in his fifth season in the NFL.

And with the Giants needing to overhaul several areas in order to get back to the top of the NFC, they could choose to go heavy on defense when free agency hits.

Could Clowney be someone that has a realistic possibility of heading to New York?

Here's what Bleacher Report thinks about the possible fit and why the team should go the defensive route rather than aim for a quarterback:

In turn, the Giants should focus on a disappointing defense in free agency.

Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is an ideal target for improving a pass rush that has just 24 sacks and allowed 25.5 points per game (23rd in the NFL) this season. He's talented, versatile and will be just 26 years old at the start of the 2019 season.

The Giants still find themselves in the NFC playoff picture thanks to their fourth win in the past five games, but it's going to take a lot of things coming together for Pat Shurmur's team to reach the postseason.

But no matter what, there's no doubt that this upcoming offseason is going to be extremely important when it comes to once again being a frequent playoff contender.
