Over the past few months, there's been a lot of speculation about what the New York Giants will do with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. It was widely believed that the team would merely bring in Eli Manning's eventual successor with all the talented quarterbacks in the draft, but New York may go in a completely different direction once the Cleveland Browns have made their selection at No. 1 on Thursday.

Apparently, the Giants may be not being going quarterback after all. New York is expected to select running back Saquon Barkley out of Penn State with the No. 2 pick.

Although Manning may not have many years left as the starter or in the NFL for that matter,  Barkley brings a dynamic to New York that hasn't been seen in quite some time. There's no doubting the talent of the former Nittany Lion as he's clearly the best player at the position in the NFL Draft this year with the potential to be an instant star in this league.

If the Giants decide to go with Barkley at No. 2, the 21-year-old could have a similar impact in New York as Ezekiel Elliott had for the Dallas Cowboys a couple of years ago. Dallas took a substantial risk in taking the Ohio State product with the fourth overall pick in 2016 and so far it has paid off as he's quickly become one of the best backs in the NFL.

In three seasons at Penn State, Barkley racked up 5,038 yards from scrimmage with 51 total touchdowns. He'll almost certainly provide an instant boost to the Giants offense while opening up the passing game for Manning with superstar wideout Odell Beckham Jr. downfield.
