When the Seattle Seahawks selected wide receiver DK Metcalf with the No. 64 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, hype immediately began surrounding him. After wowing scouts and fans with his impressive frame and athleticism, his stock in mock drafts rose to making him a high first-round pick. Obviously, teams did not view him as a first-round pick.

Despite many teams not thinking Metcalf could run a full route tree or stay healthy, the Seahawks' rookie impressed in his first NFL season. Seattle certainly should feel like they got a steal with the 6-foot-4 and 230-pound receiver.

In the 16 games that he played this season with the Seahawks, Metcalf ended up catching 58 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 15.5 yards per reception. Those numbers show just how big of an impact he is capable of having moving forward for Seattle.

Before the season, the Seahawks were expected to have Doug Baldwin back and Tyler Lockett as the No. 2 option. Unfortunately, Baldwin was forced to retire due to an injury. That led to the Seahawks desperately needing help at the position, which led to the selection of Metcalf.

Metcalf showed his ability to run crisp routes that no one thought he would be able to run at the NFL level. There is still a lot of work for him to do in this category, but it was a successful first year.

Also, the Seahawks were able to use Metcalf as a vertical threat. He has top-notch speed and his frame makes him nearly impossible for defensive backs to completely shut down. For the first time in his career, Russell Wilson finally had a wide receiver capable of winning jump balls on a consistent basis.

There is still a lot of room for growth and improvement. Metcalf is nowhere near reaching his full potential. That being said, his first season was an absolute success and the fans should be excited about his potential to develop into a top wide receiver.

Grading an entire season for a player is never an easy task, but for a rookie it could not have been much better. Seattle is headed in the right direction and they are giving Wilson the weapons he needs to compete for another Super Bowl. Metcalf is going to be a huge part of that long-term success and there is reason to argue that he was the steal of the draft.
