Portland Trail Blazers sign free agent center Greg Stiemsma for training camp

The move can be considered precautionary, given the amount of big men that the Blazers currently have sidelined.
Meyers Leonard, Noah Vonleh and new signing Festus Ezeli are all dealing with injuries to start the season. With all three out, it could prove to be too heavy a workload for Mason Plumlee and Ed Davis at the center spot.
While not a big name in the NBA, Stiemsma has spent each of his first four seasons with a different team and helped anchor each team’s defensive core.
He’s a rugged defender with good size, standing at 6-foot-11 and 260 pounds, but his offensive game leaves a lot to be desired and is often the reason he lacks consistent minutes.
Greg Stiemsma last played with the Orlando Magic in the preseason of 2015, but was waived after sustaining an achilles tendon strain and has not suited up for any NBA team since.
