Tension engulfed the NBA Playoff series between the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors when Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks hit airborne Warriors guard Gary Payton II out of the air on a fast break during the first quarter of Game 2, resulting in a broken elbow for the Dubs' reserve. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, among others on the team, took exception to the play made by Brooks, who Kerr said “broke the code.” Essentially, Kerr was saying that Brooks broke an unwritten rule with his Flagrant Foul of the Warriors guard. Brooks, who was suspended for Game 3 after his foul, spoke to reporters on Monday ahead of the Game 4 matchup, responding to Kerr's comments, as reported by ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk.

Brooks, unsure of what Kerr meant, said that “it's the playoffs” and “every play counts.” While he went on to add that he “would take back” the fact that Payton got hurt if he could, the Grizzlies guard clearly isn't buying Kerr's talk about the code.

He likely didn't want to add any more fuel to the fire of a series that is already smoldering, especially after Grizzlies star Ja Morant left Game 3 with a knee injury that occurred after a scrum involving Warriors guard Jordan Poole.

Brooks, who, much like the Grizzlies as a whole, plays a hard-nosed, physical style that isn't likely to change anytime soon, especially not because of the comments from Kerr.

That should make a pivotal Game 4 between the Grizzlies and Warriors even more interesting.
