The Memphis Grizzlies blew a 19-point lead at home against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night, falling by a score of 112-103.

Afterward, Grizzlies head coach J.B. Bickerstaff was not happy with the officiating, particularly when it came to point guard Mike Conley.

Late in the game with Memphis down one with about two-and-a-half-minutes left, Bickerstaff felt that Conley was fouled by Celtics big man Al Horford. The end result was Conley losing the basketball, resulting in a Boston fast break bucket.

Bickerstaff referred to Conley not getting the benefit of the whistle as a “running theme,” according to David Cobb of The Memphis Commercial Appeal, and then extrapolated:

“We didn't play perfect, but that's a huge missed call,” Bickerstaff said. “Mike Conley is one of the class acts in the NBA. He deserves the respect of the officials. Time and time again, he drives to the basket, there's contact made, but there's no whistle. He doesn't complain. He doesn't get technical fouls, but for whatever reason he doesn't get the respect that I feel like some of these other guys at his level do.”

The coach then added that that non-call “changes the momentum of the game” and that Horford should have been tagged with the foul:

“It's clear as day,” said Bickerstaff. “Mike Conley drives to the basket. He baits the defender. They slap him on his arm. We don't get the call.”

It must have then infuriated Bickerstaff even more to see Horford bury a dagger three-pointer to put the Celtics up by four points later on.

The Grizzlies fell to 18-17 with the loss and have dropped six of their last eight games.
