Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant unveiled a new hairstyle in the second half of their NBA preseason duel against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After the game, Morant revealed the hilarious story behind it.

In an interview with Evan Barnes of Memphis Commercial Appeal, Morant said the hairstyle was born out of an accident after he lost two bobby pins in the middle of the game.

“That look wasn't supposed to happen. I put my bobby pins in the wrong spot and I ended up losing two of them during the game. My hair was just in my face so I had to put it up in a ponytail.”

After changing his hairstyle, the 21-year-old Morant suddenly exploded for a monster finish to kick off the second half. Did the hair distract the Timberwolves' defense? Or did the new ‘do give the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year some fresh energy?

A fan, however, wasn't entirely impressed with Morant's dunk or his emergency hairstyle. In fact, he was confused as to what was on the head of the high-flying guard.

One other fan didn't see an NBA player taking flight. Instead, he saw a jumping pineapple.

Whatever the case may be, the Grizzlies improved to 2-0 in the NBA preseason after a convincing 123-104 victory over the Timberwolves. Ja Morant played just three quarters and finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Forward Kyle Anderson added 16 markers and eight boards.

The Grizzlies will play two more offseason games, both against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday and on Saturday. Their regular season opening assignment will be against the San Antonio Spurs on December 23.
