Memphis Grizzlies rookie big man Jaren Jackson Jr. thought Dallas Mavericks rookie phenom Luka Doncic was a “myth” when the Slovenian was getting all this hype last summer leading up to the 2018 NBA Draft.

Jackson Jr. says he didn't meet Doncic until Draft Day.

Luka Doncic is much more than a myth. In fact, he just might win the 2019 Rookie of the Year award, an honor Jaren Jackson Jr., Phoenix Suns rookie Deandre Ayton and Sacramento Kings big man Marvin Bagley III probably thought they were going to win.

There's this stereotype that European players are soft and can't compete with NBA players. Other than Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki, there haven't been many European players who have shined in the NBA and become superstars.

Luka, though, is trying to change that stereotype all by himself, and he's doing a pretty good job. The 19-year-old is averaging 20.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists for the Mavs and leads all rookies in points per game.

Jackson Jr. is having a solid rookie season as well for the Grizzlies. The fourth overall pick in the 2018 Draft is putting up 13.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 50.6 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from the 3-point line.
