Memphis Grizzlies center Jonas Valanciunas says Sarunas Jasikevicius deserves an NBA head coaching job.

Per Lithuanian basketball journalist Donatas Urbonas, Valanciunas said that Zalgiris head coach Jasikevicius — who has been on the radar of different NBA teams including the Grizzlies — has what it takes to coach in the NBA level.

Memphis asked me about Saras: about his personality, my relationship with him. I think Saras is unique coach. Not every coach could handle Zalgiris like he did. I think he deserves NBA head coaching job.“

Valanciunas also pointed out that Jasikevicius would need to make adjustments on his coaching style if he makes it to the NBA, but he added that nothing is impossible for the Lithuanian coach.

“He would need to make adjustments, but everything is possible for him. He is still growing coaching and he knows how to adapt and what to change to become NBA head coach. I think there would be no problem with it,” the Grizzlies center added.

Early this May, the Grizzlies were reportedly interested in Jasikevicius to potentially replace JB Bickerstaff as their head coach. However, as it seems today, there is still no significant progress in their discussions.

In three seasons as head coach of EuroLeague's Zalgiris basketball team, the 43-year-old Jasikevicius has amassed an impressive 79-9 (.898) win-loss record.

The Toronto Raptors interviewed Jasikevicius for their vacant head coaching job last year. Now, his name has cropped up in the Grizzlies' head coaching search.
