The Memphis Grizzlies will look to close out their Western Conference first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, and they will have to do so without Steven Adams.

The Grizzlies announced on Thursday that Adams will not play in Game 6 of the series after entering into the league’s health and safety protocols.

Adams was a go-to starter for the Grizzlies in the regular season, which included earning 75 starts over the campaign. The veteran center posted a points per game average of 6.9 coupled with a career-high in rebounds per game with a 10.0 mark.

Adams’ playing time has dwindled in the playoff series against the Timberwolves, playing in a mere seven total minutes since the team’s Game 1 defeat.

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins has since called upon Xavier Tillman to take Adams’ place in the starting lineup, which included starts in Games 4 and 5 of the series. Tillman is slated to once again start for the Grizzlies in Game 6 and if the Timberwolves pick up a decisive win in the contest, Jenkins may roll him out for the winner-take-all clash on Sunday due to Adams’ unlikely availability for the matchup.

Overall, the Grizzlies are eyeing their first trip to the Western Conference semifinals in seven years.
