Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant was ruled out of action on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets after suffering an ankle injury late in the second quarter.

Morant, a second-year player who broke out in a big way as a rookie in 2019-20, picked up the injury after contesting a shot from Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot. While the Grizzlies wasted absolutely no time in ruling him out for the remainder of the contest, it remains to be seen what is the extent of his injury.

Coming as no surprise considering Morant's popularity among both fellow players and fans, the NBA landscape quickly took to Twitter to react to the Grizzlies youngster's ankle injury.

The 21-year-old Ja Morant was originally selected by the Grizzlies with the No. 2 overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft out of Murray State.

Morant went on to appear in 67 regular season games for the Grizzlies, a team that encountered some success in 2019-20. Starting in all of those appearances, the up-and-coming point guard averaged 17.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.3 assists.

Entering Monday evening's showdown with the Nets, Morant was averaging a whopping 36.0 points across 34.5 minutes per game. Morant tallied seven points, three assists and two rebounds in 13 minutes of action before exiting prematurely on against the Nets.
