Former No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet is pursuing a comeback into the NBA and has drawn interest from several teams, according to a report by Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times on Thursday.

The 7-foot-3 center out of Connecticut was a highly-touted defensive prospect out of college, but failed to materialize in the league despite his size and length.

He was drafted ahead of Stephen Curry, DeMar DeRozan, and James Harden, and has been previously labeled a complete bust with career averages of 2.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game.

Thabeet played for four different teams during his five seasons in the NBA, spending the last two as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he averaged less than 10 minutes per game in 89 appearances.

Woelfel also tweeted a surprising statement following his first report.

While his size could be of help for a team needing it, it's hard to imagine he's polished up his defense during his two-year NBA sabbatical, when he's blocked less than a shot per contest throughout his career.

Hasheem Thabeet was last seen in NBA circles in 2015 playing for the Detroit Pistons' D-League affiliate Grand Rapids Drive, where he averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
