Tencent held a game conference this weekend, showcasing the new games they have in development for the fiscal year. The Chinese game development giant has been producing licensed games of some of gaming's biggest titles. This time, they showcased a classic arcade game that we haven't seen in a long time. Tencent unveiled Metal Slug Awakening, a Metal Slug Mobile game developed by TiMi Studios.

The Metal Slug Mobile game in development since at least last year arrives with a new promotional trailer. Tencent unveiled the game, titled Metal Slug Awakening, during their game conference last Sunday, May 16, 2021. The trailer featured the series protagonist Marco, but it also appears that Tarma, Eri, and Fio can also be chosen. It also gave us a glimpse of how the game will look like. Based on the trailer, the Metal Slug mobile game will feature classic stages and levels from throughout the Metal Slug series. Fans can expect the exact same gameplay they have grown to love in arcades and consoles. Meanwhile, everything in the game received a graphical upgrade, with beautiful updated 3D models populating the screen.

Metal Slug Awakening will be entering a China-exclusive closed beta testing sometime this June 2021, says video game analyst Daniel Ahmad. More details about the game will come out between now and then, Ahmad says.

SNK Interactive unveiled the Metal Slug mobile game in June 2020, revealing that the game is an officially licensed SNK game. Metal Slug Awakening will come out on both iOS and Android devices. There's no confirmation yet on when the game will arrive on Western shores, or if it will ever come to the West. However, given the series' huge global audience, it doesn't seem to make sense for Metal Slug Awakening to not be released globally any time soon.
