While NBA rookies are set to get their first taste of the spotlights during media day, Atlanta Hawks newcomer De'Andre Hunter got the time to throw some jokes.

The Hawks rookie joked about the never-reasonable predictions for first year players. Per Alex Kennedy on Twitter:

“I'll average 50 [points], 10 rebounds, a couple of assists. I won't pass that much.”

A video documenting NBA rookies' expectations — such as number one overall pick New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson and Chicago Bulls seventh-overall selection guard Coby White — Hunter tried to keep a straight face while jabbing the idea that he'll average record-breaking numbers for first-year athletes.

The Hawks selected Virginia product and national champion Hunter with the fourth overall pick, which they obtained via a deal with the Pelicans. The 6-foot-7 forward enters a young, rebuilding Atlanta franchise coached by Lloyd Pierce.

Hunter averaged 10.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 32.5 minutes per game for the Virginia Cavaliers, winning his conference's Defensive Player of the Year during the past collegiate season.

It's an exciting time for the Hawks, who get to watch their young players learn to work together. Alongside Hunter are rookies Cam Reddish, a Duke wing, and Bruno Fernando, a Maryland center. Those three will likely take time meshing with already-established Hawks core pieces like Trae Young, John Collins and Kevin Huerter.
