Atlanta Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce says small forward Jabari Parker underwent an MRI on his right shoulder on Tuesday.

Pierce says he needs to speak with the Hawks' training staff, but that there might be some concern about Parker taking contact:

Jabari Parker didn't play on Monday against the Orlando Magic. The former No. 2 overall pick has appeared in 31 games for the Hawks this season. He's averaging 15.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 50.6 percent from the field, 27.7 percent from beyond the arc and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hawks, playing without Parker and point guard Trae Young, managed to defeat the Magic by a final score of 101-93. Atlanta is now 7-27 on the season.

The Hawks signed Parker to a two-year, $13 million deal in free agency this past offseason. Atlanta talked about making the playoffs this season, but barring some miracle turnaround, the Hawks appear on their way to missing the postseason again.

The Hawks play again on Friday against the Boston Celtics. Lloyd Pierce will update the status of Parker accordingly.

Parker played for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards last season. The Chicago native averaged 14.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 49.3 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc and 71.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The main reason Parker’s stint with the Bulls was so short was because Chicago head coach Jim Boylen put Parker on the bench for not showing enough effort on the defensive end. So far, Parker seems to have a good relationship with Pierce.
