Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young knows winning in the NBA Playoffs is hard, but it is only in his first postseason that he realized how brutal and unforgiving it is.
After the Hawks were eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Young was asked about how difficult it is to win in the playoffs. Unsurprisingly, he didn't hold back his thoughts on the matter and emphasized the level of difficulty every team faces to win a series and advance.
“This shit is as hard as hell,” Young blurted out, per Tim Bontemps of ESPN.
Despite that remark, though, Trae Young and the Hawks won two series in which they were the underdog both times. They first took down the fourth-seeded New York Knicks before shocking the top-seeded Philadelphia 76ers in the second round.
They also fought well to bring the East Finals to six games, even looking like legitimate threats to Milwaukee multiple times throughout their showdown. Unfortunately, the Hawks fell short and were simply outclassed by a deeper and more balanced Bucks team.
Credit should certainly be given to the Hawks. After all, no one even thought they'd make it far, with Young and John Collins making their first postseason appearance this 2021. It was supposed to be only a test run for the team to get what the playoffs feels like, but they did not settle and fought hard in every game.
As Young said it, it's difficult to advance in the playoffs where every game matters and a simple injury can affect the chances of a team. However, it also shows what a team is capable of and provides a great opportunity for teams to reach the next level — just like what Atlanta did.
With the way they played and the character and confidence they showed, expect the Hawks to be consistent postseason contenders moving forward,
