Argentina suffered a pretty gut-wrenching defeat against Team USA in the gold medal game of the FIBA AmeriCup tournament. The Argentines were up by as many as 20 points in the second half, but could not withstand the Americans’ furious comeback.
One bright spot for Argentina in that tough loss, though, was the performance of Nicolas Brussino. The new Atlanta Hawks swingman put up a game-high 26 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, with six rebounds, and six assists.

Brussino averaged 12 points on nearly 49 percent shooting with 5.4 rebounds for the tournament as he was selected for the AmeriCup “All-Star Five.”

The 24-year-old Brussino was claimed off waivers by the Hawks this offseason after he was cut by the Dallas Mavericks. He appeared in 54 games for the Mavs as a rookie last season, and averaged 2.8 points and shot 37 percent from the field in 10 minutes per game.
Despite his promising performance against Team USA, it remains to be seen whether Nicolas Brussino can earn more playing time with Atlanta this season. The Hawks have young forwards Taurean Prince and DeAndre' Bembry currently above him in the small forward pecking order.
