The Atlanta Hawks have had discussions with numerous teams about a possible trade for big man John Collins ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline. Well, it has now been revealed as to what exactly the organization wants in return for the 24-year-old.

Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

One team contacted by Atlanta regarding Collins told Bleacher Report the Hawks were only seeking a valuable first-round pick and a starting-caliber player in exchange for the talented young forward.

Other teams believe the Hawks could draw an even higher return. Jerami Grant has been frequently mentioned as a primary trade target for the Hawks this deadline, and Atlanta placed a call to San Antonio about Derrick White, sources said. The Spurs and Mavericks have been considered Collins suitors dating back to the 2020 offseason.

It definitely makes sense to think the Hawks could get a higher return than what's initially suggested. After all, Collins is pretty much their second-best player to Trae Young, therefore Travis Schlenk would ideally like to get a decent return for him. Collins has been linked to trade rumors since last offseason and did sign a five-year, $125 million extension to stay in Atlanta, but the franchise is evidently open to moving him.

The former Wake Forest standout is averaging 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and two assists per game in 2021/22 while shooting an efficient 41% from downtown. A team like the Mavs could definitely use the Hawks forward given their shooting struggles. It will be interesting to see if he is ultimately traded in the coming weeks. If a deal does get done, Atlanta is going to make sure it gets a logical replacement for Collins.
