The Miami Heat deservedly retired Dwyane Wade's iconic no. 3 jersey on Saturday night. Many of Wade's contemporaries, rivals, and close friends shared special messages to the three-time NBA champion, including his good buddy Chris Paul.

The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard took to Twitter to publicly congratulate D-Wade.

He also gave a lengthy spiel about his appreciation for his good friend and how lucky the Heat were to have him as their franchise star.

It's a known fact that Wade and Paul consider themselves as brothers. Both of them are part of the renowned Banana Boat crew that also includes LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.

Wade and Paul never became teammates at any point of their NBA careers. They did however, suit up together in the 2012 USA Men's Basketball Olympics that won the gold medal.

Though the two remained competitors throughout their careers in the Association, they never really had a meaningful encounter in the postseason. Of course, Wade made the Finals five times with Miami through his illustrious career.

Unfortunately, not one of Paul's teams, whether it be the New Orleans Hornets or the L.A. Clippers, came out as the Western Conference's representatives in the NBA Finals opposite of Wade's Heat teams.

Now away from the game of basketball, Wade is enjoying his time as a full-time dad with a sideline job in the NBA media.

Paul, meanwhile, at the age of 34, is still playing at a high level for the Thunder. His outstanding play this season earned him a spot in the 2020 NBA All-Star team. In fact, Paul's leadership is arguably the main reason why Oklahoma City has surprised the NBA as a Cinderella playoff team this year.
