After a disappointing season, where James Johnson seemed to take a step back, there might finally be a reason on why he had the struggles.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports, Johnson recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia, after the Miami Heat were eliminated by the Philadelphia 76ers.

During the regular season, there were questions on if Johnson's conditioning was just down, and he insisted that it wasn't, but his explosiveness just wasn't there.

Johnson still had a good season and was always giving at least 100 percent on the court, something that has made him a fan favorite with the Heat.

The power forward played 73 games this season for the Heat, averaging 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Those numbers are up from his career average, but down from the year before where he averaged 12.8 points per game.

Johnson has two years left on his contract, and then he will have a player option for the 2020-21 season. He is scheduled to make just over $14 million this upcoming season, and should be healthy by the time that the season rolls around.

Johnson is the second player to have an offseason surgery for the Heat, joining point guard Tyler Johnson who underwent surgery to repair an injured thumb.

It is expected to take about six months to heal from his thumb surgery, but he is expected to be able to get back to 100 percent, once he is fully healed.

Both of these guys are expected to be important contributors to next years team, so having them back healthy is important.
