It’s safe to say there’s no one in the NBA quite like Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler.

From his leadership of a young Heat squad currently in the NBA Finals, to his savvy coffee business inside the NBA bubble, to his unique way of paying tribute to his coaches and teammates, Butler has established himself as one of the most compelling figures in the league.

Jimmy Butler’s teammates from Marquette, where he played from 2008-2011, know this all too well. In a story by CJ Moore on The Athletic, Butler’s former Marquette teammates and others in his college orbit recounted spending time with the Heat forward and telling the stories about his personality and, specifically, his taste in music.

According to Joe Fulce, Jimmy Butler listened to country music all the time and pissed him off once by belting out Kenny Chesney while they were cleaning up the weight room. Dwight Buycks had a great story about Butler wearing a cowboy outfit all day on campus:

Dwight Buycks: I have a video of Jimmy our junior year. We had computer lab in our dorms and we had to finish a paper for our class, and this man had on cowboy boots, a cowboy hat on, tight bluejeans — Wranglers — and a long sleeve white button-up and his boots on. I bet him he wouldn’t wear it all day on campus. He wore it all day on campus.

Robert Frozena, as well as Marquette's sports information director, also remembered Jimmy Butler's fondness for jamming to Miley Cyrus:

Robert Frozena: He loved Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, too. “Party in the USA” was his No. 1 jam.

Scott Kuykendall, sports information director: We were in Orlando and it was very rare for a bus driver to have music on. When you get on the bus, it’s serious. But for whatever reason we were in Orlando playing in the Old Spice tournament and Miley Cyrus “Party in the USA” comes on, and Jimmy just started singing. He knew every word.

Aside from being a unique and entertaining teammate, Jimmy Butler was a winner, even during his days at Marquette, with Butler helping the Golden Eagles reach the NCAA Tournament in all three of his seasons with the team.
