The Miami Heat just got swept by Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. After their season came to an abrupt end, the Heat have some serious decisions to make, specifically regarding their star Jimmy Butler.
Butler, who lifted Miami to an NBA Finals run in last year's Orlando Bubble, has been a huge part of their success. Now comes the time for them to make a decision, and it turns out he is expected to receive a four-year, max money extension, according to Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.
“The expectation is that Butler, who turns 32 in September, will likely seek a maximum four-year extension worth $181 million.”
Is Butler worth that? Well, who knows. The fact of the matter is Miami needs to decide now before they risk him leaving. After all, the Heat only have a few players who have guaranteed contracts, so they are facing a busy offseason and some huge decisions after a disappointing season.
Despite Butler's playoff struggles, he is an important part of the Miami foundation and it's presumed that he remains there for the next few years, likely finishing up his career in South Beach. This summer will be telling as Pat Riley and Miami try their best to return to a deep playoff run amid a rough 2020-2021 NBA season.
