After a terrific showing in the NBA bubble that saw him play a big role in the Miami Heat's NBA Finals run, Tyler Herro is ready to take the next step in his career.

With the 2020-21 season set to start this December, Herro has already set one major personal goal for his sophomore campaign: to start for the Heat

“I think everybody’s goal is to start, and try to impact winning as much as possible,” Tyler Herro said of his goal with the Heat, via Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “So I’m just continuing to get better and hopefully I can do whatever it takes to become a starter.

“But I’m willing to do whatever the team needs me to do. I came off the bench last year and it worked out well. So whatever Coach wants me to do, I’m willing to do.”

For what it's worth, while he was a key contributor for Miami, Herro's role in his rookie year was mostly coming off the bench. He only started in eight games for the Heat during the 2019-20 regular season, putting up 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 42.8 percent overall and 38.9 percent from deep.

During the playoffs in the NBA bubble, he upped his numbers and averaged 16.0 points on 43.3 percent shooting. In Games 2 to 6 in the Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, Herro started for the Heat and even had a remarkable showing in Game 4 with 21 points and seven rebounds.

It remains to be seen if Herro can pick up where he left off from his rookie year, but there's no doubt he has made a strong case for Erik Spoelstra to consider giving him the starting job.
