The Miami Heat haven't been very good this season — they're currently sitting at the 10th spot in the East with a 14-17 record. This is why it comes to no surprise that the defending Eastern Conference champs are looking to add some new faces for the second half of the season, and according to reports, this might come in the form of DeMarcus Cousins or Blake Griffin.

This comes via Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report:

The league source said Cousins – who is expected to clear waivers at 5 p.m Thursday – is one of a handful of players that the Heat internally has discussed and been considering, a group that also includes San Antonio’s Rudy Gay (if he’s made available in a trade), Sacramento’s Nemanja Bjelica (said to be available), Houston’s PJ Tucker (said to be available) and Detroit’s Blake Griffin (but only if he’s released).

Based on the report above, it is clear that the Heat are looking to add some depth to their frontcourt. Cousins, who was recently released by the Houston Rockets after just 30 games, has been on the radar of several teams. Miami now appears to be willing to join in on the sweepstakes.

As for Griffin, the Detroit Pistons earlier confirmed their intent to part ways with the former All-Star, with the team opting to sit him out until he is traded. Nothing has materialized since then, which leads many to believe that Detroit might now be looking at the possibility of releasing Griffin. Miami isn't willing to part ways with any of their assets in order to acquire the 31-year-old via trade, so they will only make their move if he becomes a free agent.

It is worth noting that as the above report states, the Heat are also looking at a number of other veterans from around the league. What is clear is that Pat Riley has every intention of beefing up his squad as Miami looks to improve their stature for the remainder of the campaign.
