The Miami Heat are interested in trading for Oklahoma City Thunder superstar point guard Russell Westbrook, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The Heat believe Westbrook's elite skills and relentless competitiveness fit what the Heat want in a player. The Thunder are reportedly now receptive to trade inquiries on the former MVP after trading Paul George:

With Oklahoma City reportedly now receptive to trade inquiries on eight-time All-Star Russell Westbrook, Miami has conveyed interest, according to multiple league sources. His elite skills and relentless competitiveness fit what the Heat wants in a player, as one person who has spoken to the Heat said.

Heat president Pat Riley already made one big splash this summer. The Hall of Famer acquired four-time All-Star Jimmy Butler from the Philadelphia 76ers. In a wide-open Eastern Conference, Miami could be contenders if its able to acquire Westbrook, who has averaged a triple-double three seasons in a row.

This past season, Westbrook put up 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game. After the Thunder were eliminated by the Portland Trail Blazers in the playoffs, Westbrook had surgery on his left hand to repair a torn ligament in a finger and also had a minor procedure on his surgically repaired right knee.

All signs point toward Westbrook being on a new team before the 2019-20 season starts. We'll see if the explosive guard ends up on the Heat in South Beach with Butler.
