The odds may not exactly be in their favor right now, but this has not discouraged the Miami Heat from doing whatever they can to bring a new superstar to South Beach this summer. The Heat have been strongly linked to the two biggest stars in the trade market today, with Pat Riley and his front office reportedly working hard to try and lure either Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell to Miami.
Obviously, the Heat won't be able to land both stars. Getting one of them is already hard enough, but snagging both superstars from their respective teams is simply impossible. Given a choice between these two superstars, it is believed that the Heat would rather go for Durant than Mitchell. This comes via Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:
The Miami Heat remain focused on acquiring one of those aforementioned All-Stars, and multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told B/R that Miami has prioritized pursuing Durant over Mitchell.
This isn't at all shocking considering how Kevin Durant can be considered the top player in the NBA. Donovan Mitchell is no scrub, but between them, it would be hard to argue against the notion that a KD trade would give Miami a better shot at an NBA title as opposed to acquiring Mitchell.
Either way, the Heat have their work cut out for them. Both the Brooklyn Nets and the Utah Jazz aren't going to give up their superstar without ensuring that they get a major haul in return. In the end, the price might be too steep for Miami, but this doesn't mean that they won't try.
