After a disappointing and short postseason run, the Charlotte Hornets are already making major adjustments, releasing head coach James Borrego. Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the breaking news Friday morning.

Borrego just finished his fourth season with the Hornets, and his fourth season as a head coach in the NBA.

After a short assistant coaching career with his alma mater, the University of San Diego, Borrego headed to the NBA. He spent 2003 to 2018 as the assistant coach of the San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans), and Orlando Magic.

Borrego even got a taste of being a head coach in the league in 2015. After Jacque Vaughn was fired in February, he spent a couple of months as the Magic's interim head coach.

Now the Hornets are on the market to find a new head coach. Meanwhile, Borrego, recently unemployed, will look to fill a coaching vacancy elsewhere.

The Hornets finished the regular season 43-39 and tenth in the Eastern Conference. They made it to the Play-In Tournament but failed to earn a spot in the First Round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

Fortunately for both Charlotte and Borrego, there are other teams likely moving on from their head coaches this offseason. The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to move on from Frank Vogel. Meanwhile, depending on how the Philadelphia 76ers do in the postseason tournament, Doc Rivers could be on his way out. The more teams fire their coaches, the more vacancies there are to fill and more coaches there are to pick from.
