The Miami Hurricanes are aiming to build a college football contender in the near future. 5-star offensive lineman recruit Francis Mauigoa committed to the Hurricanes on Monday. His commitment helped Miami move up in the recruiting class rankings, as they now have the number 8 recruiting class in the nation.

Offensive lineman tend to get overlooked. Quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs get plenty of attention when they announce their commitments. Arch Manning's commitment to Texas set the social media world ablaze. But offensive lineman are vital to a team's success. They are the ones who provide the protection so those other players can succeed.

However, Mauigoa certainly wasn't overlooked by college coaches. The 5-star recruit had a number of offers but ultimately decided on Miami. The newest Hurricanes' star commented on his decision, per 247sports.com.

“I’m very close with the Miami staff because I was close with them when they were at Oregon,” Mauigoa said. “I developed a great relationship with coach Cristobal and coach Mirabal (OL coach) and talked to them all the time. “The whole staff recruited me hard though, it wasn’t just them. I feel like someone from the staff would reach out to me every day an I really have a strong comfort level at the school too.”

Francis Mauigoa finished his thoughts by revealing some of the people who enticed him to commit to Miami.

“Coach Cristobal is a former OL coach and I like that. Having a strong offensive line has always been important to him and it’s something that he emphasizes. Plus I got my guy Jaleel Skinner (former IMG teammate) over there too and I always have a good time on the Miami campus and feel at home. I’ve gotten really comfortable in Florida so I love the all around fit.”
