Tempers flared early in Game 3 of the Boston Celtics vs. Washington Wizards, boasting plenty of physicality, trash talk and energized play from all involved. Among the many altercations in the game, Wizards reserve forward Kelly Oubre‘s charging at Celtics center Kelly Olynyk was the one that caught the most attention.

Oubre got popped with a second consecutive high pick at the wing and quickly got up to retaliate, pushing Olynyk, who was right next to referee James Capers, resulting in his immediate ejection.

Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas remained mystified after the game of why those actions took place.

“I don't know why he reacted like that,” Thomas said in his post-game press conference, according to Jay King of MassLive. “Especially to Kelly. Kelly's not trying to make anybody mad. Not to put anything on Kelly, but he's just not like that. I guess you can pick and choose who you want to do that to.”

Wizards head coach Scott Brooks first acknowledged the gravity of the situation, but ultimately empathized with his player reacting how he did, given how Olynyk's five-inch edge over the 6-foot-7 Oubre managed to pop him right in the head with his shoulder.

Oubre could be in line for a suspension, especially given that the vice president of league basketball operations, Kiki VanDeWeghe was present at Thursday's game. If he is indeed suspended, the Wizards will heavily rely on Bojan Bogdanovic to carry the bulk of the reserve minutes at small forward.
