Newly signed Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Tyler Eifert has some high praise for his new quarterback Gardner Minshew.
The former Cincinnati Bengals standout appeared on a Zoom call with the media last Thursday and had some complimentary words for Minshew and the qualities that he possesses.
“I haven't watched a lot of tape on him, but obviously I saw last year with the mania going on, he seems like the guy the offense wants to rally behind” Tyler Eifert shared of Gardner Minshew. “Seems like a fearless leader.”
In his rookie season, Minshew took over the starting quarterback position for the Jaguars after Nick Foles suffered a collarbone injury in Week 1. The former sixth-round pick went on to start for 12 games in the season and captivated fans with his rapid success story that was dubbed as Minshew Mania.
The 23-year-old signal-caller finished the year with a 6-6 record. Now, he is poised to be the undisputed starter for the Jaguars in the upcoming year.
Eifert signed with Jacksonville on a two-year deal last March and will be reunited with his former offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, who now holds the same position for the Jaguars. Eifert had a solid season with Cincinnati in 2019, snagging 43 receptions for 436 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
He should provide the Jaguars with some much-needed veteran presence while also filling the need for an added offensive weapon for Minshew.
Funny enough, in the same interview, Eifert had to interrupt the conversation to chase his dogs who have escaped from his backyard.
