The New York Mets made arguably the biggest move in MLB Free Agency when they inked Max Scherzer to a three-year, $130 million deal. The move came as a welcome sight to one of baseball's hungriest fanbases, including one notable Mets fan who took to Twitter to showcase his excitement.

Utah Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell celebrated the Mets' acquisition on Twitter in the most New York way possible, tweeting out ā€œBING BONG!ā€ with a laughing emoji in reaction to the deal.

Mitchell, of course, was echoing the viral phrase Knicks fans were shouting throughout the streets of New York after the team's hot start to the 2021-22 season.

Mitchell's father, Donovan Mitchell Sr., works for the Mets' front office. Mitchell Sr. was a standout college baseball player at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and was selected by the Houston Astros in the 14th round of the 1992 MLB Draft.

He spent seven years in the Astros' minor-league system, playing a mix of shortstop, second base and outfield, making it as high as Triple-A ball. He never made it to the big leagues, however, but managed to find a career in baseball regardless, landing with the Mets where he served as a minor-league manager before joining the front office. Mitchell Sr. is currently the team's Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, per his LinkedIn page.

The Jazz star was absolutely thrilled with the news of Scherzer's signing, and what better way to celebrate a marquee New York sports acquisition than with a joyous ā€œBing Bong?ā€ Mitchell's connection to the Mets runs deep, and he couldn't hide his excitement after the major addition.
