Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder has opened up about how the unfamiliarity of the current situation has pretty much changed his perspective as a coach.
According to Snyder, both the extended season hiatus and the establishment of the unprecedented Disney World bubble has presented a new set of challenges for himself and his coaching team.
“You kind of assume that because the season’s been going that you don’t have as much to do, because you can keep doing what you’re doing. For us, that was really not the case on a couple levels,” Snyder said in a Zoom call Saturday, via Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune. “… Early in the year, in training camp, we had so many new players that I coached our team a little bit like a younger team. Looking back on that, I may have done it a little differently. This time, we did do it differently.”
Nobody wanted the season to come to a complete halt the way it did in March, and it required a huge adjustment period for everyone within the league. However, Snyder is presenting a bit of a silver lining here, with the hiatus actually providing him some time to see the bigger picture. By stepping away from the day-to-day activities of coaching the team, Snyder was able to come to a realization that he needed to change the way he was actually coaching his Jazz squad.
In some ways, teams are now being given a fresh start with the upcoming season restart, and for his part, Snyder is making sure that he makes the necessary adjustments from his end.
