Veteran guard Joe Johnson is set to enter his 17th year in the league, and his second campaign with the Utah Jazz where he has quickly acquiesced into a reserve role.

According to Tony Jones of Salt Lake Tribune, head coach Quin Synder envisions the 36-year-old being a serious candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award this upcoming season.

Johnson has quickly proven to be a valuable asset off the bench for the Jazz in his brief tenure with the team as a primary scoring option for the second unit. His ability to create his own shot could be a major factor, especially after the loss of All-Star forward Gordon Hayward over this past offseason.

There will be an increased need for offensive production with Hayward out of the mix that Johnson could seamlessly step into. He may no longer be the player he once was, but he has shown to still fill up the scoring column with 33 games reaching double figures including three 20-point performances.

He was also a major factor in the playoff scoring 10 or more points in six out of the seven games in the first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers. The opportunity will be there for Johnson to step into a prominent role off the bench this upcoming campaign.
