The New York Jets finally seem to be trending up after years of being at the bottom of the league. Robert Saleh comes in as the new head coach and the Jets organization is hopeful he can turn things around. The front office has made some wise investments and New York will begin their path back to relevancy.

Even so, 2021 is not likely the year the Jets make their return. This is still a young team with an incomplete roster. However, this season should be viewed more as a stepping stone to future success. They play in a tough AFC East division where all three of their division rivals are playoff contenders.

For the Jets to continue improving, now might be a great time for the front office to make a trade. There are a few areas the team needs help with, but New York has the foundation to be a great team down the road. Acquiring another player via trade could be what helps the Jets get back on track sooner, rather than later. With that said, here are three trade candidates for the Jets entering training camp.

Xavien Howard

Xavien Howard is one of the best cornerbacks in the league, but the Miami Dolphins seem content letting him go. Trading him away to a division rival is unlikely, but if the Jets make the right offer they could pull it off. New York could use some help in the secondary as this team was torched through the air last year.

Bringing in Howard gives the Jets defense some balance. Their secondary would suddenly become dangerous and the pass coverage would compliment the rush defense rather well. Howard is in the prime of his career, so adding him to the team could give the Jets a surprisingly good defense. If New York can pull this trade off, they could end up being a better team than most people believe.

Sony Michel

Not the most exciting name, but this is a trade that could really improve the Jets' offense. Sony Michel has been underwhelming during his time with the New England Patriots and with Damien Harris looking like the new starter, Michel's days could be limited. The Jets might have to overpay to acquire Michel, but the reward could be worth the risk.

It's clear the Jets will utilize a running back committee this year. The coaching staff is excited about Michael Carter's potential, Ty Johnson was a nice surprise last year, and the Jets are hopeful Lamical Perrine can turn things around. They also have Tevin Coleman on the roster, but his best days are behind him. If the Jets add Michel, he'd easily become the best running back on the team and lead solid committee in New York.

Zach Ertz

The Jets haven't been linked to any Zach Ertz trade rumors, so this would be a surprising move. New York should highly consider bringing in another tight end though, as Chris Herndon has struggled throughout his career. The team doesn't have a solid backup behind him either and having a good tight end for a young quarterback is essential for success. Ertz isn't the player he used to be, but he could at least be a consistent target for Zach Wilson.
