The New York Jets mandatory minicamp is set to conclude on Wednesday, and there has been a notable absence through the first two days in superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Head coach Robert Saleh said that Rodgers would not be in attendance on the first day of minicamp due to an event he was attending. The hope among fans was that Rodgers would show up for the final two days of minicamp as a result.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that will be happening, as reports have emerged suggesting that Rodgers will not be attending minicamp at all. Even worse, those same reports indicate that Rodgers may have even had an event he was attending that conflicted with minicamp, as he may have simply just decided he did not want to show up for the practices.

“Aaron Rodgers is skipping all of Jets mandatory minicamp this week because he prefers to be somewhere else away from football. That's his choice.”

Did Aaron Rodgers actually attend another event instead of Jets minicamp?

You can only go so many days without having some sort of Rodgers-related drama, and even though it's only mandatory minicamp in June, that statement has proven to be true once again. After missing virtually the entire 2023 campaign with a torn Achilles, the hope was that Rodgers would be fired up to return to the field in an effort to lead the Jets to the playoffs.

Missing mandatory minicamp in June obviously isn't the end of the world, but alarm bells are ringing for the Jets once again with this latest Rodgers situation. If he was missing minicamp to attend another event, folks could probably live with that, even if it's ultimately not ideal. But to simply be skipping minicamp because he doesn't want to play football right now is particularly glaring.

Everyone is wondering what Saleh knows about the situation, and unsurprisingly, he was quickly asked about Rodgers when he spoke to the media on Wednesday morning. Saleh said that he hasn't spoken to Rodgers the past two days, but stressed that the two are on the same page, despite the head coach seemingly being irritated with his absence.

It's tough to make sense of this whole situation and what is really going on with Rodgers, but for whatever reason, he isn't at minicamp, and Saleh doesn't sound too pleased with his decision. The Jets don't want to rile up their star quarterback, though, so Saleh is also attempting to do damage control in the process, only making the situation more volatile.

At the end of the day, more is going to be made about Rodgers' absence than reasonably should be, but that's what happens when you are one of the best quarterbacks in the world, and you play for the Jets. Saleh and the rest of New York will be hoping Rodgers shows his face at the facilities sooner rather than later, but it seems like they are going to have to wait until training camp to see him back in action.
