The New York Jets would be thrilled if Sam Darnold turned out to be 3/4 the quarterback that Peyton Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos. Current Jets coach Adam Gase worked a lot with Manning when the two were together in Denver, and Darnold is trying to learn about him.

According to Gase, the second-year quarterback is asking a ton of questions about Manning in hopes to learn as much as he can about what he did.

“He watches a lot of the old stuff — he’s watched a lot of Peyton’s stuff,” Gase said via Pro Football Talk. “He’s watched almost all of our cut-ups. The good thing is we’ve got a pretty healthy library of examples … He’s watched so much of it he can bring up certain plays from different seasons to where he’ll ask a question — ‘Hey, what made him do this? Or why did he think this way?’ He’s really gone through a lot of this stuff already.”

Gase and Manning still have a good relationship and the hope is that at some point he will come in and help Darnold and give him some tips. With all the questions that Darnold has about Manning and why did certain things in certain situations, it would make a lot of sense to try and get Manning to answer them face to face.

It's unclear if that day will come but Gase is trying to make it happen sooner than later. Learning from a future Hall of Famer would be a very good thing for Darnold and the Jets.
