The New York Jets signed one of the top free agents in linebacker C.J. Mosley this offseason and the team is already giving him all the keys to the defense. According to Mosley, defensive coordinator Greg Williams told him on the first day that he was going to be able to control a lot of the stuff on the defense.

“He told me the first day I’ll be able to control a lot of stuff on the field — not just making the play calls, but the things we can do in certain types of defenses and different stunts we can do and things we can show,” C.J. Mosley told reporters via the Jets team website.

Mosley knows that he is going to have to do extra film study because of all the extra responsibilities. Mosley will relay the original play call to the defense, but he will also be in charge of making changes if he sees something that needs to be changed.

“I’m the quarterback of the defense and I have to get everybody lined up,” Mosley said. “In this defense, I can make a lot of extra calls, different calls besides what the original call is. With film study and understanding the playbook, I can definitely add on to what I see other than just the call.”

Mosley is only 26 years old and it's a bit shocking that the Baltimore Ravens let him go after the standout player he has been since he has come into the league. Since 2014, Mosley and Luke Kuechly are the only players in the NFL that have racked up 500 tackles, eight sacks, and eight interceptions.

With high expectations for the Jets defense this year, Mosley is going to be a big reason why or why they do not take that big step forward.
