The New York Jets are going to be a brand new team in 2019, and Chris Herndon is excited. Herndon is a second-year tight end who had a promising rookie season. There's been a lot of change since his first campaign, including the addition of new head coach Adam Gase as well as Le'Veon Bell.

The arrival of Gase means Herndon will be learning a whole new system, and so far he likes what he's seen.

“Just from the jump, we’re taking shots down the field, using everybody and everybody is getting a chance to touch the ball,” Herndon said, per Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site. “You feel a different energy out there and we’re just trying to keep this momentum that we have right now and let that carry into the next day, next camp and going into the season.”

It sounds like Herndon has been enjoying the team's offseason program. Herndon said the offseason work is very important to him, and emphasized learning is even more important than skill sometimes.

“You could have all the skill in the world, but if you don’t know what to do, you’re not really going to get much playing time. Period. Before you can get out there and make plays, you have to know where to be and that’s probably the most important part. The athleticism and running comes easy,” he explained.

Herndon was a fourth-round pick last year, and it's safe to say he defied all expectations. Rookie tight ends don't usually contribute much, especially fourth-rounders. But Herndon made an immediate impact, finishing with 502 yards and four touchdowns.

Gase has had success implementing tight ends into his offenses in the past, and so far Herndon seems to love everything he's seeing from his new coach.

He'll be a nice weapon for Sam Darnold moving forward, and it sounds like he could have a breakout 2019.
