The New York Jets are reportedly interested in University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh as a potential replacement for current Jets head coach Todd Bowles.
Harbaugh held a press conference on Friday morning ahead of Michigan's Peach Bowl matchup against Florida on Saturday and, naturally, was asked whether or not his representatives have been contacted by any NFL teams.
Harbaugh answered in a way that pretty much anyone would expect, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:
“I don’t really have any representatives,” Harbaugh said.
Seriously though, what do you expect Harbaugh to say? He obviously isn't going to confirm any conversations his “representatives” may have had with NFL teams, and he isn't going to torpedo his chances of landing an NFL job by outright denying any talks that may have occurred, either.
That being said, the 55-year-old has said that he plans on remaining at Michigan.
Harbaugh last coached in the NFL in 2014, when he and the San Francisco 49ers parted ways after four seasons.
The former NFL quarterback had a successful run with the 49ers, going 44-19-1 overall and leading the team to a Super Bowl appearance and two other trips to the NFC Championship Game.
However, a rough 2014 campaign which saw San Francisco win just eight games resulted in his exit.
In four years at Michigan, Harbaugh has gone 38-13. This will mark the fourth straight year Harbaugh has led the Wolverines to a bowl game. Thus far, Michigan has gone 1-2 in such contests, topping Florida in the Citrus Bowl during the 2015-16 campaign.
