The New York Jets already have Sam Darnold, but with Josh McCown's future in doubt, the Jets needed a backup. Trevor Siemian is that man.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Jets have signed Siemian to a one-year deal worth $2 million. With incentives, the deal can reach up to $3 million.

Trevor Siemian spent the 2018 campaign with the Minnesota Vikings, serving as Kirk Cousins' backup. However, he did not throw a single pass.

The 27-year-old, who played collegiate football at Northwestern University, was originally selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round (250th pick) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He didn't play at all in 2015 behind Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, but the following year, after Manning retired and Osweiler signed with the Houston Texans, Siemian was named the Broncos' starter. He threw for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 84.6.

Siemian then beat out Paxton Lynch and a returning Osweiler to maintain his hold on the starting job heading into 2017. He threw for 2,285 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 picks while completing 59 percent of his passes and recording a passer rating of 73.3 over the course of 10 starts. A shoulder injury knocked him out late in the year.

The Jets are coming off a 2018 season in which they won just four games, resulting in the firing of head coach Todd Bowles after four seasons. New York has not made the playoffs since the 2010 campaign.
