The long wait is about to be over for New York Jets fans, who are excited to know who will fill in the void left by the great Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk is reporting that Jets head coach Todd Bowls is just a week away from penciling in the team’s opening day starter under center.

Coach Todd Bowles said that he will make his decision next Monday about which player will be in the lineup when the Jets travel to Buffalo to kick off the 2017 season.

As of the moment, the Jets have three options for the role. with Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg, and Bryce Petty.  As the oldest and most experienced QB among the three, McCown appears to be the lead candidate for the job. The 15-year pro McCown passed for 1,100 yards and six touchdowns, as well as six interceptions, across five games for the Cleveland Browns last season.

That being said, it might be wiser for the Jets to roll the dice with Hackenberg. After all, the Jets aren’t going to contend this season either way, and starting Hackenberg would help them decide whether to continue developing him or go back to the drawing board once the next NFL Draft and free agency come around.
