New York Jets second-year quarterback Sam Darnold bounced back from his terrible outing against the New England Patriots in Week 7 … only to do further damage and throw three interceptions in a road loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Darnold hurt his left thumb in the defeat—and that is just one of several injuries the 22-year-old gunslinger is nursing.

Per ESPN's Rich Cimini, Darnold will play through the non-throwing hand injury. Darnold called the ailment a “pain-tolerance thing,” and first-year Jets head coach Adam Gase confirmed his signal-caller would play through the injury.

Darnold previously missed practice during last week in the lead-up to the Jaguars game with a toe injury suffered during the 33-0 Patriots drubbing the previous week. Prior to that, Darnold infamously had a bout with mononucleosis, which sidelined him multiple weeks including a game after Gang Green's early-season bye week.

Darnold miraculously returned and led the Jets past the Dallas Cowboys in a great game from the former third-overall pick from the 2018 draft, but that may have been an illusion for overall season performance. Darnold threw seven interceptions in the past two games, at times throwing the game away for the Jets, who despite their one-win record have a respectable defense all things considered.

With high expectations entering 2019, the first half of the season has been nothing but a gut check for Gase, Darnold, and New York's organization, which could be looking more at quick rebuild than postseason contention. The franchise traded a former first-round pick in defensive tackle Leonard Williams on Monday to their neighbor New York Giants for multiple future picks.

Darnold's thumb injury is apropos for the Jets' season: it's a pain tolerance thing.
