Early last week, asked when he would be able to return to the field, New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold stated he would come back when he's healthy.

Well, news regarding his return got slightly more positive Monday, as per Josh Alper of NBC Sports, coach Adam Gase stated:

“If he gets cleared, he’ll start.”

While Darnold is still set to undergo tests on Tuesday in order to make sure that his spleen is not at risk of rupturing, every week that goes by is another step closer to his return.

The Jets are in desperate need of a Darnold return; in his absence New York has looked god awful. The Jets rank dead last in total offense so far this season, averaging 179.5 yards per game. Third string quarterback Luke Falk has yet to reach a game with over 200 yards passing and hasn't thrown a touchdown pass either.

When Darnold does come back, he might not like what he sees around him, as even Le'veon Bell hasn't been able to get anything going. In the last two games Bell has totaled 78 rushing yards on 35 attempts.

The road will not get easier for the Jets as they are scheduled to play the Cowboys and Patriots in the next two weeks. Darnold was drafted as the savior of New York but in order to do that he will need help as there are many other problems with the Jets other than the quarterback position.
