New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will miss the team's practice Saturday afternoon and is doubtful to play in the squad's game against the New England Patriots Monday night, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting.

Originally injured in Week 4 of the NFL season against the Denver Broncos, the former USC product sustained a shoulder injury as he was being sacked and slammed to the ground at MetLife Stadium. Classified as a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, Darnold, at the time, missed the next series in the game, but was able to return to what eventually came to be another loss for the hapless franchise. Despite this, the quarterback eventually was forced to sit out the following week against the Miami Dolphins due to the injury, clearing the way for backup Joe Flacco to see his first action of the season.

The reoccurrence of the injury is not surprising given that Darnold is not only protected by an offensive line that is considered among the worst in the league—having given up 19 sacks on the QB thus far—but that the former third-overall draft pick has displayed a habit for holding onto the ball longer than is advised.

With the Jets searching for their first win of the season, it is likely that they will once again turn to former Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who, in two starts on the year, has thrown for nearly 400 yards, but only managed a 51.9 completion percentage, and endured another five sacks of his own.
