Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy was reportedly in the mix for the New York Jets job, but it appears that the two sides disagreed when it came to the possible staff additions.

McCarthy was fired as Packers coach in early December, and everyone knew he would be a hot commodity on the coaching market due to his overall success in the NFL.

However, at this point, it looks like McCarthy will sit out the season before returning to the sidelines with nearly every coaching job already filled.

That includes the Jets opening, which led to former Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase become the new leader in New York.

But it seemed possible that McCarthy could have been a possible choice if the two parties had agreed on the current direction of the franchise.

From Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

McCarthy harbored some concerns about the structure and composition of the Jets front office, sources said, though he did have a productive interview with ownership and team officials. However, as the Jets began deeper conversations with their finalists for the job, it became clear he was not going to mesh with their direction. Specifically, sources said, the Jets asked to see a list of a potential coaching staff so that they could peruse and consider the options. McCarthy complied with the request but began to have reservations about the process at this point, sources said, and was unsure if this would in fact be a match.

La Canfora also states that it may have been a long shot either way, but it's at least interesting to know what led to the eventual hiring of Gase.

The Jets will try to get back on track under their new coach after struggling the past few seasons.
