There are have been a lot of calls for the New York Jets to fire Todd Bowles but according to Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News, the Jets are not planning on making a coaching change yet.

One of the big reasons that the Jets aren't ready to make a change according to Mehta is because there really isn't anyone on the staff right now that is ready to be a head coach, so making a change now would actually make the team worse than it already is.

The makeup of the current coaching staff, frankly, isn’t conducive for change. There isn’t a viable replacement in the eyes of decision makers. Wide receivers coach Karl Dorrell has prior college head coaching experience. Rick Dennison has been an offensive coordinator at multiple places, but no one on staff has been an NFL head coach. There isn’t a viable replacement in the eyes of decision makers. Bowles is the defensive play caller, so losing him in-season would make things worse on that side of the ball.

The Jets aren't having the type of season they want but Bowles is still popular in the locker room and players have made it clear that they still enjoy having him around.

“T. Bowles is not the problem,” safety Jamal Adams said Sunday. “I’m going to ride with T. Bowles until the end. I don’t care what the fans say. I’m going to support my coach through thick and thin… The coach is not on the field. We got to execute our job.”

Bowles did sign an extension through the 2020 season but that won't stop the Jets from making a change this offseason if that is what they decide to do. The Jets have six games left in this season and the players have that many weeks to try and save his job.
